Conventions

OK so the speeches a the DNC were all excellent. I was pleased that Obama was sharp and firm and didn't talk like a preacher. Bill and Hill were both excellent. I felt like Hillary looked and sounded like a president (maybe in the future). I did support Hillary in the primaries but now I am behind Obmama and I think Biden was a good choice.

Now, on to the RNC. I did not watch as much of these chuckle heads, but I did watch Sarah Palin and McCain. Sarah's speaking skills are excellent. I was most impressed. She was very comfortable, engaging, and even funny. However, her speech and McCain's speech said NOTHING about what they plan to do to fix this hot mess of a country. They were both just stroking the republicans off about how great they are and what a great country this is.

I remain hopeful that Obama will win and this country may actually be able to turn itself around and get its collective head out of it ass. However, the Palin Power is real and I think she will have a lot of appeal to many people, especially those who are not so keen on McCain but don't want Obama. The thought of her as Prez in case McCain croaks is a bit scary. I thinkt he Dems really need to pound it into Americans heads that McCain=Bush, McCain=Bush, McCain=Bush. Because everyone (including republicans) hate Bush.

Get out and vote...for OBAMA!!!

What the French Toast?

Sure seems like the Earth is angry lately. In the last 2 months here has been:

  • 1 huge killer cyclone in Myanmar
  • 2 volcanoes have erupted, one in Chile (which had been dormant for 10,000 years) and today one in Galapagos
  • 1 huge killer earthquake in China followed by some damaging aftershocks
  • 1 strong earthquake but not damaging in Iceland
  • Several moderate but not damaging quake sin Japan
  • Numerous large killer tornadoes in many places in the US
What's next...doh, hurricane season!

American Idol

I am very glad that David Cook won. He is my favorite. However, Syesha is a very close second and in some ways I think she was robbed...I hope she becomes a huge star too.

Quick Movie Round-up Review

Crystal Skull: I'd give it a C+. It was too corny and cheesy.

Iron Man: Rocked! It was what other comic inspired movies should strive to be like. It was funny and not cheesy, great action, had a story line, and a great actor at its center--Robert Downey Jr. I am glad to see him back and in top form.

Prince Caspian: Not as good for me as the first. I felt it lacked the wonder that made the first one so enjoyable. I was also pissed that the white witch didn't really come back.

Project Runway

I know I am way behind in posts. But I am very happy Christian won project runway. I hope he becomes very successful. Anyone who watches the show knows he is a big queen and he is not even apologizing for it! Amy Poleher on Sat Night Live did an amazing impression of Christian on the show and it was HIGHlarious! And I am endorsing...Hillary 2008!

It has been a tough decision. After being pro-Obama for a while I have reevaluated and also watched the LA debate from last week. I felt as though Hillary gave better, more substantive answers than Obama. And I am a believer in universal health care. I think Hillary really does have more relevant experience (hello, white house for 8 years). I do think it is ashame how the media continues to portray her in a negative light. They always pick the pix of her when she looks ugly or monstrous... We all have pix like those but the media only shows these types of pix when its Hillary. This is not surprising given who controls the media and the mysogynistic nature of America. Anyway, go and vote!

Election Year

I think I was right about the positive effect of the writer's strike. The current wasteland that is TV has left a vacuum that has been filled with an exciting primary season. I believe people have been coming out to vote in the primaries in record numbers. People actually seem to be really engaged and are very ready for change. I cannot wait to see the Bush-Cheney war, debt accrual, hate generating, environment destroying machine be dismantled. I hope it is a very public process that will reveal the insidiousness of the Bush administration and all the damage it has wrought upon America. I am still very hopeful it can be repaired and we can once again accurately claim that we are the best and most powerful nation in the world for the right reasons...not just cause we have the most powerful military.

The Clinton/Obama race is still so up in the air, I honestly still don't know who to vote for on Super Tuesday. I am very titillated by the idea of a Clinton for Prez and Obama VP ticket. I don't think it will work in the reverse--Hill wants to be top dog.

I am glad Giluani is outta there, he really had little to offer. I think John McCain is too old to be prez and Huckabee is a nutter.

Cloverfield was good!!!

OK, I am a big Sci-Fi geek. So, naturally I wanted to see this movie even though I thought the trailers and all the hype may have been a portent of a crap movie. Luckily I was wrong. It was actually quite good. The cinematography was a bit nauseating but it actually worked very well. The monster was big and ugly and the little evil lobster things were scary too. I am sure there will be a sequel, the movie made buckets of money. Of course some of the dialog was cheesy and the acting was kind a bad at some points and the motivation for them to go to Columbus Circle was kind of lame but it was great to watch them get there. I would definitely recommend the movie to Sci-Fi/horror fans. Make sure you pay attention to one of the final scenes when the camera is looking out over the ocean...it may give a clue as to the creatures origin...

Unseen Benefits of the Writers Strike?

I was having some deep thoughts about the writers strike and how much it will suck that the rest of this TV season is shot and that potentially next season's TV will be affected as well. But then I thought how incredibly auspicious the occasion of no new TV for months may be in the context of a presidential election period! Maybe the people of America will actually wake up out of the TV-induced coma and really pay attention to what is going on in the country and around the world and get angry and want to do something about it! And, in turn really listen to the candidates for the presidency and then really vote! So, now I see the sliver lining of the writer's strike--I hope I am right.

It's Britney Bitch!

Hey y'all...Britney's new album is Good! I was expecting it to suck I guess but it really is good...very similar in sound to her last album. So no real "new" sound, but it is classic Britney which is fine by me. Best songs: Everybody (it's destined to be a gay club hit--at least I hope!!); Radar; Get Back; Freakshow. If you like Britney I definitely recommend buying this album.

Howdy Y'all

I haven't done an entry for a long-ass time. I been busy at my old job--that's right I finally left TSG and I start a new job on the 12th at Health Matters Communications. It is a great opportunity I have to be the head of the scientific services dept and to build out the dept as the company grows. I am really looking forward to it. Wish me luck!
